There's No One "Correct" Wedding Timeline
Every wedding day is different — and that's exactly how it should be.
Some couples want a relaxed afternoon celebration with plenty of time spent with their guests. Others prefer a later ceremony and a more evening-focused atmosphere centred around great food and a cosy celebration. Some love tradition. Others want to completely rewrite the rulebook. And honestly? The most memorable weddings are usually the ones that genuinely reflect the couple.
Our role is never to tell you how your wedding should look. Instead, we're here to guide you, offer advice based on experience, and help create a day that feels natural, enjoyable, and completely personal to you. That said, most wedding days do follow a similar rhythm — so here's a look at how a typical day at Tree Top Escape could unfold, along with some of the ways couples make it their own.
The Morning: Slow, Excited, Completely Yours
Most couples begin the morning slowly, getting ready onsite and soaking up the excitement of the day ahead. Staying in the Tree House means there's no alarm to set, no stressful journey to make, and no last-minute panic in a hotel car park. Just a gentle build of anticipation in a place that already feels like home.
Your wedding coordinator is nearby whenever you need her — there if you have questions, unobtrusive if you don't. The morning is yours to enjoy at whatever pace feels right.
The Ceremony: Personal, Unhurried and Completely You
Ceremonies are often held around lunchtime, especially during spring and summer, as it gives couples plenty of time to relax and enjoy the afternoon with their guests. But there's no rule about this — your ceremony happens when it feels right for you.
Whether you've written your own vows, chosen a favourite reading, or kept things beautifully simple, the ceremony in The Nest never feels rushed. There's no clock ticking in the background. No distracted staff. Just you, the people you love most, and those incredible floor-to-ceiling views of the North Devon countryside.
The Afternoon: Drinks, Photographs — and the Alpacas
After the ceremony, the pace becomes wonderfully relaxed. This is often where the day really finds its rhythm — drinks flowing, guests mingling, laughter drifting across the grounds. Your photographer is still with you at this point, which makes the afternoon a perfect window for natural, candid shots alongside any more formal portraits.
It's also usually when you'll head out to meet May, Alberto, Carlos, Winter and Holly — our five resident alpacas. It never gets old. Watching guests of all ages completely light up while feeding alpacas in the Devon countryside creates some of the most joyful, unposed photographs of the entire day. It's one of those moments nobody quite expects, and everybody loves. Find out more about alpaca feeding on your wedding day — it's available to add to any celebration for just £25.
Dining: An Experience, Not Just a Meal
When hunger arrives — and it will — dining at Tree Top Escape is an experience in itself. You might gather in The Nest surrounded by those countryside views, head along the winding woodland path to the Grill-Haus for a magical private chef experience with food cooked right in front of you, or keep things relaxed with grazing boards and afternoon tea in the Meadow Room. And if you'd like to venture off-site for your meal, there are some brilliant local pubs and restaurants nearby too. Take a look at all of our wedding dining options to find what suits your day.
No Kick-Out Time. No Rush. No Rules.
One of the things that makes Tree Top Escape genuinely different is that there is no kick-out time. This is never a venue where someone taps a watch at 10pm and starts stacking chairs. The nature of TTE is relaxed — and that extends right through to the end of the evening.
Once the formal part of the day is done, your wedding coordinator will gently step back and leave your party to enjoy the celebrations in their own time — whether that's with your private chef if you have one booked, or simply by yourselves if not. No fuss. No interruptions. Just your people, your space, and your evening.
How the Evening Unfolds — Your Way
For couples with guests, there's a lot of flexibility about how the afternoon and evening wind down. Some love the idea of keeping everyone together as long as possible — guests relaxing in the Meadow Room, playing games on the lawn, or lingering over dinner in The Nest long into the evening. Others prefer to wrap up the celebrations a little earlier and send their guests off to explore one of the local pubs or restaurants nearby, while they steal away together as a newly married couple — with the rest of the night entirely to themselves.
There's something genuinely lovely about that second option. The toasts have been made, the ceremony is done, the photographs are taken — and suddenly it's just the two of you. Newlyweds. Nowhere else to be. No agenda. Whatever you choose, we'll make it work beautifully.
The End of the Night: Hot Tub, Stars and Married Life
However your day has unfolded, the end of the night at Tree Top Escape tends to feel the same: quiet, warm, and completely unhurried. Back at the Tree House, your private hot tub is waiting. The countryside is still. The stars are out. And you're married.
Couples often tell us afterwards that it's the first time in years they genuinely switched off — that they felt completely present throughout the day rather than watching it blur past. That they went to bed that night feeling full — of food, of laughter, of love — rather than exhausted and relieved it was over.
That's what a wedding day at Tree Top Escape feels like. Not a schedule. Not a formula. Just yours.
