What to Expect During Your Alpaca Feeding Experience

We want your alpaca experience to feel relaxed and special, not rushed. Here's how it typically works on the day:

Our team will take you and your guests to meet May, Alberto, Carlos, Winter and Holly at their paddock. We'll provide feed and show everyone the best technique for hand-feeding alpacas safely. The alpacas are used to visitors and are wonderfully calm around people, so there's no need to worry if you've never been near one before.

The session typically lasts around 15–20 minutes, giving everyone plenty of time to interact, take photos and enjoy the experience at a comfortable pace. We're happy to work with your wedding photographer to make sure they're in the right spot to capture the best shots.

Fun Facts About Alpacas

Social Animals – Alpacas are herd animals and enjoy the company of others, making them perfect for social events like weddings. They genuinely enjoy interaction with humans when socialised well from a young age.

Incredibly Soft Fleece – They are prized for their soft and luxurious fleece, which is hypoallergenic and warmer than sheep's wool. You might even get to give one a gentle stroke!

They Communicate by Humming – Alpacas communicate with a variety of sounds, including humming, which they use to express curiosity or contentment. Listen out for Alberto's soft hum when it's time for feeding.

Gentle by Nature – Unlike some farm animals, alpacas have a well-earned reputation for being gentle, with a calm demeanour that makes them wonderfully easy to be around, especially on a wedding day when you want everything to feel relaxed.

Eco-Friendly Grazers – Alpacas have padded feet rather than hooves, which means they're kinder to the ground they walk on. They're also light grazers and produce less methane than cattle, making them a surprisingly eco-conscious choice of animal companion!

Perfect for Wedding Photography

One of the most popular reasons couples add the alpaca feeding experience to their day is the photography potential. Our resident alpacas are naturally photogenic and their fluffy, expressive faces make for wonderfully charming images.

Think bride and groom nose-to-nose with a curious alpaca, little ones giggling as they offer feed from their palms, or a wide shot of your whole group gathered around the paddock – these are the candid, joyful moments that give a wedding album real personality. We'd recommend letting your photographer know in advance that the session is planned, so they have time to prepare for the light and position themselves well.
